About RE-CUP²
We’re thrilled to bring the RE-CUP program back to York University! From May 5 to June 30, 2025, our custom-designed RE-CUP stations will be collecting single-use disposable cups across campus—empowering students, faculty, and staff to keep cups out of landfills and contamination out of blue bins.

Why It Matters
Every year Canadians discard over 1.6 billion disposable cups—many never make it to the proper recycling stream. By using a dedicated RE-CUP station, you help:
Lower landfill impact: Together, we can divert thousands of cups from waste bins and landfills.e.
Improve recycling quality: Cups sorted at source reduce contamination in mixed streams.
Maximize resource recovery: Collected cups go straight to our recycling partner, ensuring they’re processed correctly.
How You Can Help
- Recycle right – Locate the nearest RE-CUP station and deposit your cup and lid in the clearly labeled sorters.
- Spread the word – Tell classmates, colleagues, and friends to look for “RE-CUP” when they finish their coffee or tea.
- Volunteer – Join our student ambassador team to monitor stations, educate peers, and collect data.
- Bring RE-CUP to your building – Departments, clubs, and residence halls can request an additional station to boost participation.
